Cutlery must be able to withstand the demands of everyday use and retain its beautiful appearance – no matter how often it is used or cleaned in the dishwasher. WMF has solved the problem with Cromargan protect®. In 2008, after years of research, WMF succeeded to refine Cromargan®, which has been protecting WMF cutlery for more than 80 years. Cromargan protect® is extremely resistant to scratches, so even frequent heavy-duty use can’t damage the material. The surface of polished cutlery remains permanently shiny, while brushed models keep their matt finish, almost as they were on their first day. Furthermore, it is resistant to acids, rust proof, has a neutral taste, is easy to clean, dishwasher safe and has an almost unlimited lifetime, as usual.

From design of the times to utmost individuality

Cutlery always mirrors the zeitgeist. Since 1853, WMF has taken this inspiration and turned it into products for everyday use.

For more power at your fingertips

Geislingen has produced cutlery since 1853. It also started in the bourgeois 19th century with elaborate models in baroque or classical forms such as Spaten and Augsburger Faden. With the Art Nouveau movement and the founding of the WMF design studio starting in 1890, designs were created which reflected the style of the times. The Fächer model (1925) combines elements of different styles with those of Art Nouveau. The model 2500, which appeared at the start of the 1930s, was a bold vision of the future.

The design of the 1950s was decisively influenced by Bauhaus student Wilhelm Wagenfeld. His signature characteristics: an elegant but clear and functional design. The Stockholm cutlery was designed by Kurt Mayer, who was head of the WMF design studio for many years.

Straightforward and somewhat more extravagant, New York was the embodiment of the spirit of the 1960s and Brasilia the style of the 1970s. The hit of the 1980s was Onda, designed by Franz O. Lipp, while Virginia dominated the 1990s.

Today, WMF’s continuing cooperation with prominent creatives is still consistently resulting in unique cutlery – like Zaha by star architect Zaha Hadid or Jette by jewellery designer Jette Joop.
